North London Tae Kwon Do (NLTKD) is run by fully qualified GTI Tae Kwon Do instructors to the GTI (ITF) syllabus and standards . Our aim is to provide a venue for new or experienced student of Tae Kwon Do to to learn and practice Tae Kwon Do training. We are a new club but it is named after the former NLTKD which ran for many years around North London. We train twice a week teaching a balanced combination of self defence, fitness, patterns and sparring techniques, and grade on average once every 3-4 months With our media filled world, I am often asked how does Tae Kwon Do compare against other forms of martial arts. There are many different styles of fighting, i.e. wrestling, boxing, fencing, or even military self defence, etc. Also there are the "arts" aspect which refers to mental and physical development as in yoga, education, confidence, attitude etc. The people that specialise in there form of training, for example boxing and will be the best at it, within the rules of that field. Tae Kwon Do strikes the right balance between fighting, self defence and mental discipline and attitude. This is not surprising has Tae Kwon Do is an “amalgamation of Chinese, Japanese, and traditional Korean fighting styles hence Tae Kwon Do has become the world's most commonly practiced martial art. Tae Kwon Do has aspect of almost all fighting styles including sparring, self defence, breaking, "take downs", weapons self defence and lots more. Our training regime is based on scientifically researched methods. Tae Kwon Do has no barriers to either sex, physique or age - all are welcome. Your health, strength, agility and confidence are greatly improved. This, coupled with the support and comradeship you will experience from others makes for very pleasant training sessions. Instructors Mr Onipede 1st Dan has trained in Tae Kwon Do from the early 1990's, under Mr Albert Williamson-Taylor with the original NLTKD, but after a long break achieved his Black belt with the GTI in 2004. Mr Onipede has won numerous won numerous sparring trophies including British Championship, English Championships and other regional and Open tournaments. Mr Onipede runs a building construction firm and is a Corgi qualified gas operative. However with the demise of the original NLTKD Mr Onipede felt that he would re-open the NLTKD school to provide a school in London for old and new students Tae kwon Do, Mr Albert Williamson-Taylor, 5th Dan, who runs a Structural Engineering firm in the city is returning from TKD retirement, has trained, instructed and examined students including Black Belt Dan gradings in Tae Kwon Do for almost 20 years. Mr Albert Williamson-Taylor has was competed at both national and international level and won numerous tournaments.
